I won’t bury the lead. It’s Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
This coming Sunday the Kansas City Chiefs and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will square off in Super Bowl LV, in Tampa. Patrick Mahomes of the Chiefs, considered the best quarterback in football today and the only one who has a slim chance of catching up to Brady’s GOAT status, so this game has a lot on the line. If Mahomes ever wants to be in the same conversation as Tom Brady for best ever, he has to win this Sunday. If he loses, sports analysts for the next 50 years will call it out.
Football is way more of a team sport than basketball when you break down the impact that one player can have, so this isn’t quite like being able to watch Jordan vs Lebron, but it’s about as close as we will ever get in the NFL.
So with all this on the line, I’m still picking against the greatest QB in football today and I’m choosing the 43 year old who threw 3 interceptions in his last game? Yes.
If you had to pick who would win this game weeks 1-16 it’s a pretty easy call. Kansas City. You can’t make any mistakes against them and hope to keep up with that rocket ship offense.
But this is the Super Bowl. Brady was fully aware that he was signing with a team that was also hosting the Super Bowl. He knows the GOAT status will be solidified for an eternity (if it isn’t already with his 10th SB appearance…) if he were to leave the greatest coach of all time, go to a drowning team in a tough conference, take them to the Super Bowl and beat the greatest offense the league has ever seen.
Brady is built for these moments. Just look at his last game against the Green Bay Packers. He didn’t outplay Aaron Rodgers but when the time came to make that clutch throw, he nailed it. Rodgers, is more talented by a mile, but has now lost in 4 straight conference finals.
Under pressure. Doom-doom-doom-doom-doom-doom. Patrick will feel it. Brady won’t. Also the Bucs defense outplays the Chiefs defense in almost every category and have the ability to pressure Mahomes into making mistakes (only one other team has…the Raiders).
The energy with the Tampa Bay Bucs is probably best summarized by Kevin Garnett after he won the NBA Finals. “Anything is possibllllllllllllle!!!!” now that Tom is in the building. Watch out KC!
